 Carbon-fibre and aluminium chassis. No welding ! |  |  |  |
What we did :
we designed the whole rolling chassis, with a frame made of carbon-fiber and aluminium. No welding, only gluing between carbon fiber parts and aluminium upright and inserts. The advantages are double : 1- technically, it allows to adjust the chassis stiffness very locally by changing the layup and fiber orientation of the composite. The fibers tend to return quickly in position after being loaded, which allows to make a laterally softer chassis to absorb well at full angle, and still give the feed back of a stiff frame to the rider. 2- financially, once the moulds are machined, it is very cheap to make and repair frames and adjust their stiffness. It took 5 units to absorb the costs compared to aluminium machining and welding.
